Glinting city blue
It’s tempting, when finding my way in a city foreign to me, to succumb to the blues, the feeling of dislocation. But when challenged to navigate a new language, new climate, new food; I adapt, learn and discover. Amongst it all there are moments I’m compelled to capture with my camera lens.
In Hong Kong I’ve been like a bowerbird, attracted to the colour blue. Not the blue of melancholia, but a sanguine blue glimpsed on city surfaces. Each blue is the same, but is transformed by its texture and context, belying a wizened optimism.
Framed by battered blue, these goldfish glint and undulate peacefully in their aqueous home. This surprising calm in the midst of city chaos lifts my spirits.
